I have a lifetime of experience in competition. But this June marks a milestone: 20 years of competing in the sport of bodybuilding. And while I can’t distill two decades of lessons onto one page, I will say this: becoming a champion isn’t some distant, unattainable peak. It’s so close, it’s almost laughable.

I’ve developed a formula. And I’ve kept it a secret—until now. My biggest realization? Success involves five simple steps:

Do. Accomplish. Celebrate. Tweak. Repeat.

That’s it. That’s the formula. Simple? Yes. Easy? Not a chance. Every victory I’ve earned was achieved thanks to small adjustments, executed with relentless passion, until they created something undeniable.

Finding My Stage

My first bodybuilding competition took place in 2005 in Toronto, Canada. I was looking for a stage. I had spent my life striving and performing, but suddenly, age became a barrier. Doors that were once open were now closing. Why? Simply because of the year I was born in. And then, I found bodybuilding, a sport that didn’t just welcome longevity, it rewarded it because the older you got, the more refined, the more sculpted, and the more powerful you became. Who wouldn’t want to look and feel better with age?

The dream was there. The ambition. The spark. But what built the reality? It was the small moves, the small adjustments. Every single day, whether intentional or unintentional, I was building my mountain.

The truth? No one wants to hear that success is this simple, because they’re already looking for an excuse not to do it.

Small Adjustments Make a Champ

Champions aren’t made in sweeping moments of victory. They’re built in the daily work, the micro-wins, and the silent improvements that compound over time.

For training: One movement performed better. One rep executed with more precision.

For nutrition: One smarter food choice. One more macro optimized. One decision that fuels performance, without marketing hype or peer pressure.

For recovery: One extra deep breath. One smarter rest day.

For mindset: One act of resilience. One stronger boundary. One more moment of unshakable self-belief.

Then repeat. That’s the formula! That’s how champions are made.

The Real Value of Competing

People love to say, “It’s not about winning.” Let me tell you something: it 100 percent is. It’s about winning—every single day. Winning that next workout. Winning that optimized element of recovery. Winning that next stronger habit. Winning that sharper decision. It’s about “winning” the person you become. If someone tells you it’s not about winning, they haven’t defined it big enough. Because that’s where I live. And that’s where I want you to join me.
