Holiday parties, winter galas, and family obligations can have us reaching for cocktail after cocktail, but imbibing a little during the festivities doesn’t need to derail our fitness goals.

Tequila is somewhat of an underrated hard liquor. Although your college days of throwing back shots may be behind you, tequila doesn’t need to be. Tequila is just 64 calories per ounce, while vodka at 96 calories per ounce tends to get touted as the more calorie-friendly alcohol option.

Made with agave, tequila is naturally a little sweet, so you’ll be less inclined to add additional sugary calories. The smoked oak, vanilla, and caramel flavors of tequila can be more enjoyable to sip on than your alcohol-tasting vodka. Like vodka, tequila is also often the booze of choice (when combined with club soda or other sugar-free mixes) by those prescribing to low-carb and ketogenic diets, thanks to the zero-carb price tag. “Tequila Cazadores is made from 100 percent blue weber agave and has zero additives. It has zero sugar, fat, or carbohydrates,” says Kris Bahamondes, mixologist for Tequila Cazadores.

No matter what your taste in libations, be it vodka or tequila, these simple and refreshing cocktail recipes are sure to lighten up your holiday season. Of course, we ask that you please enjoy responsibly and have a happy and healthy holiday.
